The most heartbreaking moments of meeting countless students every month in my Pagoda live classes were facing students who had wasted months in the wrong direction before finally coming to me.
Students would sign up for common TOEFL mock test sites out of desperation. However, the inaccurate scoring and mechanical feedback provided there were leading them astray. Many were relieved by fake scores detached from actual grading rubrics, or frustrated to the point of giving up their dreams of studying abroad.
"What about students who can't attend live classes?"
For the students who came to my classroom, I could personally guide them on the right path with direct feedback. But countless students who couldn't take online classes due to physical distance or busy schedules were still wasting their youth, deceived by scores far from the actual grading criteria. As an educator, this reality was overwhelmingly frustrating and I felt deeply sorry for them.
This is why I briefly put down my chalk, learned how to code, and started staying up all night with developers. I digitized the know-how and actual grading criteria I built from grading over 5,000 essays as Pagoda's lead instructor and trained the latest AI models with it. After countless iterations of rebuilding the logic, Unlock Prep was finally born, providing 1:1 feedback at the level of a native tutor to anyone, transcending physical limitations.
I'll be honest with you.Unlock Prep's scores are ultimately 'estimates' too. But the clear difference is that it shows you exactly which sentences lose points and why, based on the official ETS rubric, in the most transparent way. It's not a service made to give you peace of mind with a score, but a service made to eliminate deductions.
This is not just an IT service. It's the sincerity of an educator wishing for even one more student to reach their dreams the fastest and most accurate way without wavering. Please don't take the long way around anymore.
Sincerely, Hyukjoon Kwon
